Since its creation, Elvis Presley Enterprises (EPE) has undergone various ownership changes. Now, under the management of Authentic Brands Group LLC, EPE is sailing full speed ahead, bringing a new era of growth and excitement to the Elvis brand.
A Journey Through Time
Elvis Presley Enterprises faced a tipping point in 2013, with the potential to thrive or crumble. However, the company has come a long way since then. Let’s take a quick journey into the past to understand how EPE reached this turning point.
After Elvis’s death in 1977, Priscilla Presley took charge and revitalized the commercial value of Elvis’s name by opening Graceland to the public. Eventually, ownership of Graceland and EPE passed to Lisa Marie, Elvis’s heir.
In 2004, Lisa Marie shocked the Elvis fan community by selling 85% of her interest in EPE to CKX, Inc., led by Robert Sillerman, for $100 million. CKX’s control over Elvis’s image was short-lived, as it was later acquired by Apollo Global Management LLC. Finally, in 2013, Authentic Brands Group LLC secured ownership of EPE.
New Owners, New Vision
Under Authentic Brands Group LLC, EPE found new partners who shared the vision of enhancing the Graceland experience. Joel Weinshanker, founder and chairman of the National Entertainment Collectibles Association, joined forces with the Presley family.
The acquisition brought a fresh perspective and increased resources to EPE. Lisa Marie and Priscilla Presley expressed their excitement about the partnership, emphasizing their commitment to expanding the Graceland experience.
Jack Soden, the long-standing president and CEO of EPE, welcomed the opportunities that Weinshanker’s involvement brought. Together, they planned to take Graceland to “new and exciting heights.”
Opening Doors to the Future
The first major project undertaken by EPE under Authentic Brands Group LLC was the creation of “The Guest House at Graceland.” This stunning hotel, adjacent to Graceland, offers visitors an experience as if Elvis himself extended an invitation to stay in his home. The grand opening of The Guest House in October 2016 marked the beginning of a new chapter for Elvis fans worldwide.
But EPE’s vision doesn’t stop there. The company aims to expand the Graceland experience even further with plans for “Graceland West,” an entertainment complex across the street from the hotel. This complex will feature a museum of Elvis-owned vehicles, restaurants, a soundstage, retail stores, and the “Elvis the Entertainer” museum.
Embracing the Future
Elvis Presley Enterprises, guided by Authentic Brands Group LLC, is committed to upholding the legacy of Elvis and providing fans with unforgettable experiences. Through their meticulous planning and dedication, EPE is transforming Graceland into a world-class destination.
With the opening of The Guest House at Graceland and the upcoming developments of “Graceland West,” Elvis fans have more reasons than ever to visit Memphis and immerse themselves in the world of the King of Rock and Roll.
